Experience

After graduating from college, I taught kindergarten for 5 years in Hamilton County at Birchwood Elementary and Harrison Elementary School.  I then took 15 years off to raise 4 wonderful children. When my youngest child started kindergarten, I returned to teaching. I taught at Blue Springs Elementary for 5 years. When Blue Springs was closed because of the tornado of April 2011, I  was blessed with a position at Waterville Community Elementary. WCES has been my home for the past 5 years.

Bio

I was born in Connecticut to Judi and Dave Gomien. My parent, 2 brothers and I moved to TN when I was 9 so my father could begin a job at Combustion Engineering. Some of our favorite things to do together as a family were: boating, fishing, playing games and working jigsaw puzzles. My dad and I would stay up late into the night working puzzles.

I always enjoyed playing and working with children so when it was time to go to college I knew teaching was the right thing for me to do. During college I worked at East Ridge Baptist Daycare which solidified my decision about teaching.

After graduating from UTC, I taught 1 year at Birchwood Elementary school. During this first year I also got married to my husband, Ralph. My next 3 1/2 years were spent at Harrison Elementary School. I quit teaching in December 1991 when my 1st child, Ian, was born. Not long after, Tanner came along, followed by Collin and Kate. When Kate started kindergarten, I applied for a position at Blue Springs Elementary where I worked until the tornado of 2011. I was blessed with a position at WCES the following year and have enjoyed working with the WCES staff, students and parents ever since.

My family and I enjoy working outside, swimming, playing games and reading. I hope your family has things that you enjoy doing together.
